Wish You Were Here

Of course, no one here gets the Pink Floyd allusion, but oh well...  Anyway, I wanted to tell you about two funny stories today.  They were things that happened on my way home from school.

The first happened on the T.  I was sitting on the E line train in one of those single chairs that is parallel to the sides of the train.  Sitting across from me were two girls.  They looked like as if they were in college.  The one had her hair dyed so it was blonde at the ends (a la old school Madonna).  They both had lots of make up on, big skirts and had their hair curled in that loose, greasy, 80's style.  They kind of radiated 80's "style."  While I'm pondering the weirdness of that bad taste coming back into vogue, a trio of punks walks up.  They stand right behind the Madonna girls.  It was great juxtapositioning.  They had their belts that were made of bullet casings, nose-rings and outrageous hair cuts.
I thought:  "... this is what it must have looked like on the T in the 80's!"  Then I thought:  "ugh!  Like, gag me with a spoon!"

The other story happened while I was waiting to use an ATM.  There was a nanny with her charge trying to get money out of the ATM.  I assume she was the nanny because of her inattentiveness and the color contrast between her and the kid.  While the woman is mesmerized by the ATM, the kid drops her sucker on the floor.  The kid then tells the nanny that she "dropper her stick on the floor," but the nanny just grunts and ignores her.  The kid, then, leans out of her carriage, picks the sucker up and procedes to eat it, not lick it, eat it.

I watched with a little smirk on my face as I walked up to the ATM.  I've seen homeless dudes sleep in that ATM area and I know that it gets a lot of regular foot traffic.  I'm sure that it gets cleaned regularly, but I can't imagine that floor was clean.  Oh well, I figure it is like sending kids to school so that they can build up their immune system by getting all the other kids' colds.

What's In A Name?

Here is an interesting Java App.  It is called 'NameVoyager' and it graphs the popularity of names of the top 1000 names per gender, by decade.  In case you're interested, Eula is in there.  Check it out here:  http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html

Lazy Day

It is just after 9 AM and I'm sitting at school.  I didn't really do any of my ready for school last night.  I have class in an hour.  I was supposed to be in a meeting right now, but I just found out it was canceled.  So what am I doing?  I'm blogging.  Well, I could not resist.  You see, I found two things that I really wanted to share with you.

The first is a quote.  "It's like the Pistons are a basketball-playing Voltron."  Yeah, you read that right.  Someone compared the Pistons to Voltron.  Find it here:  http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/3671850?GT1=6555

Second.  Has anyone heard of The Park Slope Food Coop?  It is some kind of grocery store in NYC.  Here are part of the rules as stated in the Membership Manual:  "When your child turns 18 and is out of high school, s/he is required to join the Coop as a working member."  If he doesn't, he will be sent to the soylent green gulag, never to be seen from again!  You can find the manual here:  http://www.foodcoop.com/PSFC/member_info/MembershipManual.htm

Have a nice day, comrades!

The Name Game

I'm back in class starting on Tuesday.  I'm kind of looking forward to classes even though I don't know which ones I am taking yet and I'm still recovering from 1L.

Anyway, the reason for this update is two fold:  1.  it had been awhile since I had last updated and it seemed like a missed opportunity to not blog while on break;  2.  I realized that one of the brains behind a number of nicknames for Anne and I had started dating and I had missed the opportunity to return the favor.  I am, of course, talking about Eric.  I am not sure whether I missed all the fun when every one else worked on the nickname or if one is even needed.  Nevertheless, here are my entries in ascending order:
  1.   KaChang

  2.   CharChang

  3.   Erklotte

If I totally missed the bus on this, please feel free to rehash any good nicknames here for my edification.  If I did not miss anything and, on the contrary, am the catalyst for the process, then please feel free to leave any of your own ideas here, too.

Touching Base

So in the craziness of preparations for finals, I have time for a quick update.  The impetus is a conversation I had with some dudes this evening about mixed reality.  The other day I found this website.  It has some interesting research.  I'm not sure that it is all cutting edge, but, some of it is interesting (see Poultry Internet).

Seacrest Out.
